USAID is a major player in the negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians in the water and wastewater sector. Since 1996, USAID has contributed more than U.S. $300 million to improve water services to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. Despite the ongoing violence, Israeli and Palestinian officials responsible for water meet regularly and significant cooperation continues. IPCRI has made notable strides in advancing the dialogue among Israeli and Palestinian academics, private consultants and government officials, frequently expanding discussions by including water professionals from the region. The International Water Resources Association- IWRA is the world's leading interdisciplinary academic professional society dealing with the broad spectrum of management, geopolitical, economic, technical, engineering, ecological and social aspects of water resources management and development. The IWRA served as one of the main sponsors of the 1st Israeli-Palestinian International Academic Conference on Water held in Zurich in 1992.
